Paris, 3 January 2023 - Degroof Petercam Investment Banking acted as financial advisor to the Mestdagh family in the context of the sale of SA Mestdagh to Les Mousquetaires group (Intermarché banner).
With 87 supermarkets, more than 135,000sqm of sales area and a turnover of 694 million euros in 2021, SA Mestdagh is a major player in food distribution in Belgium.
This emblematic and strategic transaction in the Belgian food retail sector will enable Intermarché Belgium to double its number of stores and its market share in a highly concentrated market that offers few opportunities for development of this type. The new entity will have a stronger territorial coverage and will offer consumers the combined strength of both groups. The Mestdagh family, attached to the values and quality standards it shares with Intermarché, guarantees a future of sustainable growth to Mestdagh stores, thanks to an ambitious and long-term project.
Degroof Petercam Investment Banking's role in this transaction confirms its threefold expertise: sector expertise in the retail sector, a leading role in Franco-Belgian transactions and a strong strategic position in supporting family-owned groups.
